Conflict Resource Team

The Conflict Resource Team  (CRT) seeks to promote healthy congregations within the Presbytery of Philadelphia.   
 
 The team is comprised of both clergy and laity who have specialized training in conflict management skills. Staff support is provided by the Associate Executive for Pastoral Ministry.

The Conflict Resource Team Members

 

Rev. S. Timothy Pretz, DMin is the Coordinator of the CRT and has served as a pastor for 21 years.  Currently he is a family therapist and seminary professor in counseling and pastoral care. He has received extensive training in systems theory and interpersonal dynamics through graduate studies, clinical training, and workshops.  "Conflict provides an opportunity for individuals and congregations to both deal with specific issues and experience deeper healing and growth."

 

Rev. Lori Kosinski is currently serving as a Chaplain at Meadowood Life Care Community in Worcester, PA. She has served the PCUSA as a volunteer on Philadelphia's Committee on Ministry and General Assembly Council. "Conflict is a natural part of the development process of any family community or organization."

 

Rev. Pam McShane has an extensive background in Christian education, youth ministry and spiritual formation, and is the pastor in the shared ministry of Princeton and Chambers Memorial Churches. She has received Conflict Management Training through the presbytery, and been a part of the CRT since 2007.  "Conflict is a natural by-product of change.  It can be painful, but it can also bring about positive results."

 

Phoebe Sheftel has served as a mediator for community conflicts, employment disputes and public policy issues. She is trained in basic and advanced mediation, as well as facilitation with multi-party groups. An elder at Bryn Mawr Pres. Church, she served on the Committee on Ministry and focused on conflict management within churches. "Anxiety and hurt are inevitable in conflict; but conflict acknowledged and managed in a safe process offers opportunity for healing and wholeness."

 

Rev. Jeanne Thomas is Interim Pastor of Llanerch Pres. and has received Conflict Management training, Interim Pastor training, and After-Pastor training for congregations in the aftermath of clergy misconduct. She has served on the Presbytery Committees on Ministry and Mission Oversight. "Transition and conflict go hand in hand. When we deal with conflict in healthy ways, we can grow as a body of Christ in unexpected and exciting ways."

 

Rev. John VanDruff  is a pastor, educator, listener, and observer of group dynamics. He has received training in conflict resolution, transformational ministry, interim ministry, and After-Pastor care for congregations. He is Pastor of Glenolden Pres., a participating partner in the Presbytery's Missional Church program. "Where is God in the conflict? can be forgotten as conflict escalates. Yet conflict can also be an opportunity for creative growth and change."

 

Tony Visco has been a Labor Attorney, representing management, for 40+ years. His work has included negotiating collective bargaining agreements and handling labor arbitrations. Currently, he is working as an Arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association. He is an elder at Forest Grove Church. In 2009 he spoke at the Relationship Skills Conference sponsored by the Board of Pensions. "Conflict, well-managed, represents an opportunity to achieve reconciliation and resolution."
