Gulf Coast Hurricane Response
The Presbytery of Philadelphia has entered into a partnership with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance to help to manage their Volunteer Village at Pearlington, Mississippi. Pearlington is just a few miles from New Orleans along the Pearl River in Southern Mississippi. In addition to providing typical recovery efforts of home rebuilding, the Presbytery, through the African American Pastors Group, has undertaken to help to rebuild the community of Pearlington through community organizing efforts and empowerment of people in the area.
At a meeting held on January 28, 2005, over 50 people gathered to learn about needs and conditions at various Volunteer Villages and sites along the Gulf Coast and to share plans for mission trips to the region over the next several months.
More information on the PDA’s Volunteer Villages including how to register a group and what preparations are needed before you go can be downloaded by clicking here: [MSWord Document] or [Adobe pdf Document].
